My parents, Betty and Peter Teasdale were old friends of David and his first wife, Margaret. Betty and Margaret went to school together in Hove, Sussex, England. They remained friends all their lives, staying in touch long-distance by letter and and saw each other whenever David and Margaret visited England. They each married lovely men – David and my own father Peter – who by coincidence were within 2 days’ age of each other. (My father was the elder by 2 days, born on 5 April 1918.) In their younger married lives they still lived near each other – David and Margaret at Orpington in Kent, and Mum and Dad in Croydon, Surrey.
I continued to send Christmas cards to David until a few years ago and then stopped hearing. I wondered what had become of him and so have just searched on line. It’s a little late to send my condolences but I do anyway. David was a lovely man: kind, funny and so wise and I too enjoyed knowing him.
Sixty years ago I first met Dr Rowlands at Remuera Baptist church and typically was invited to a family lunch at their home in Lucerne Rd where I quickly discovered we both had similar backgrounds in WW2 Britain and that I had lived near his boyhood home in North Wales. From then we have remained good friends and colleagues, myself working for several months as a locum and assistant in lis practice. I was very impressed by his faith, wisdom and dedication to his patients and family, learning a lot from him. He was a true servant of our Heavenly Physician and a blessing to many. With my wife Andrea and daughters , Robyn and Lynette, I offer our
loving sympathies to all his family.
