If you are responsible for handling funeral arrangements, there is a checklist of things that need to be taken care of after someone passes away within our Advice section “What to do: A Checklist”. Here is a list of New Zealand Newspapers to contact to place a death notice/an obituary/a funeral notice. The value of an obituary is to notify the community of a death and to celebrate a life.

  • The newspaper will require verification that your loved one has died.
  • 1. The simplest way is to provide the name of your Funeral Home (or Doctor) who was caring for your loved One and the newspaper will call and verify.
  • 2. You can send to the newspaper the “Death Certificate” (officially called “Medical Certificate of Cause of Death”
  • 3. A link to a previously published newspaper obituary (often from overseas).
